Workshop: Using Collaborative 3-D Desktop Worlds for Developing Innovative
Approaches to Education

Organizer: Katy Börner, SLIS, IU Bloomington
Time: 1:30pm - 4:30pm on June 13th, 2001
Place: Room M088, Indiana Memorial Union, IU Bloomington.

Description: The first part of the workshop will introduce Active World Technology (AWT) and its educational programs followed by a guided tour to educational sites and showcases of student work.
The second part explains how to install and run AWT; provides hands-on building sessions; demonstrates the "in world" tutorial; and last but not least it will pass on experience about different ways to integrate AWT into the classroom.
The final discussion session will encompass topics such as how to "fit" the environment with the learning objectives and content, and AWT's potentials for "distance education", "just in time education", and "learning as exchange".
Participants will be invited to an informal get-together after the workshop.

Invited Guest:
Dr. Eric A. Wernert, Advanced Visualization Laboratory, UITS, IUB will give an overview and demonstration of alternative 3-D online browser systems.
