LOCATION

Workshop, Week 1, May 15-20, 2006 (Plan to arrive May 15)

Week I of the Network Science Workshop/School will be held in the Canyon Inn, a rustic lodge in McCormick's Creek State Park, about 35 miles northwest of Bloomington. In May it will be particularly lovely and our environment while, not elegant, is charming and conducive to informal, continuous conversation. We will furnish transportation (by reservation to jjames@indiana.edu ) on May 15 for participants who can depart at 3:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m. or 9:00 p.m. If these times do not meet your needs, we suggest you make arrangements with Classic Touch Limousine to get from the Indianapolis Airport to McCormick's Creek State Park. (Please see travel section). The first workshop session will begin on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at 8:00 a.m.

The Canyon Inn operates on a full American Plan. Your reservation will include 5 nights lodging, 5 breakfasts, 4 lunches, 5 dinners, daily morning and evening refreshment breaks, and 4 hospitality gatherings. Reservations must be pre-paid and may be made on line on the registration form. For additional information, please see lodging section.
**Canyon Inn is SOLD OUT**

Conference, Week 2, May 20-25, 2006 (Conference begins May 22)

On Saturday, May 20, we have arranged to transport participants who spent the first week in the workshop, to the Bloomington campus. We have a block of rooms reserved in a newly remodeled campus residence hall for network scientists. Guest instructors will be lodged in a nearby Bed and Breakfast inn. Reservations for the residence hall accommodations must be pre-paid, and may be paid on line on the registration form. For additional information, please see lodging section.

The IU Bloomington campus is an appealing blend of traditional and modern architecture within a part-like environment. We believe the contrast in your physical surroundings from your first week will be energizing and pleasing. Bloomington offers the charm of a small town and the sophistication of a cultural capital with international caliber performance in opera, music and theater. Our sessions will be held in the Indiana Memorial Union. Computer labs, post-office, banking, bookstore, coffee shop and other amenities are all located within the building. We invite you to take a virtual tour of the campus: www.iub.edu/tour

Local Time Zone

At the time of the Workshop and Conference, Bloomington will be on Eastern Daylight Time (the same time as New York City and the East Coast of the United States).

Weather

Temperature in south-central Indiana at in the middle of May tends to be in the low 70. It is full spring, and the Indiana woods and the campus are at their best. We suggest that you bring layered clothing to adjust to seasonal changes and erratic air conditioning. You might enjoy having a sturdy pair of shoes with you at McCormick's Creek because the hiking trails are exceptionally nice.

Local weather information is available through the National Weather Service at: http://www.crh.noaa.gov/forecasts/INZ062.php?warncounty=INC105&city=Bloomington

Equipment

We very much encourage you to bring a laptop computer. Internet access will be available in the public areas of the Canyon Inn, and in the meeting rooms and residence hall (Willkie) on the campus.

If you need any special equipment to display a poster or project data, please notify Janet James, jjames@indiana.edu
